Location & Year

A kinetic installation in the entrance hall of the engineering company IWB GmbH, Braunschweig, Germany 2001

Description

Ten solar driven objects made of Aluminium and Poliethylene sheet each equipped with an electronic power unit were suspended from the walls and ceilings of the entrance hall and the staircase of the company. The shapes of the objects refer to the architecture of the building. Each object carries a solar panel which collects the light coming in from the lamps in the hall and from a large overhead glass window at the top of the staircase.
The electronic unit inside each piece sets the object into slow revolving motion as soon as enough light has been collected in a capacitor. This continues for ca. 3 minutes until it returns back to its position to be charged up again by the light. Meanwhile another objects starts its rounds and fills the hallway of the building with subtle movement.
